History

runnyhoneys was founded by Sue Browne in 2011. Back then, she was a 40 something mother of two who was coaxed into running by a friend after a knee operation. In 2009 she ran the London Marathon and hasn’t looked back.

The first runnyhoneys group run was on Friday 09/09/11 at 9:00am at All Saints' school gates in Putney. From the outset, the emphasis was on supporting each other to become better runners and this friendly encouragement is still key to the feel of a runnyhoneys run. Yes, we can be competitive and some of our runs are really challenging, but they are NOT intimidating and definitely NOT cliquey. As we grow, this is really vital to maintain!

Just when runnyhoneys Putney had really got going and was 2 years old, Sue and family made a bid for freedom and headed out of London for the sea, South Downs and Petersfield. Having landed and got a bit sorted it wasn't long before runnyhoneys Petersfield came into being with our first beginners course in January 2014 (see some of our first runners modelling the beanie above!) Petersfield Heath's newly opened The Plump Duck, followed by numerous pubs became our meeting venues. Word began to spread, Run Leader Lizzie came into being and most of the staff at Petersfield Infants school joined up. We were off!

In 2017, East Hants District Council were scouting around for an organisation to help make their "Healthy New Town" (aka Bordon) a reality. We took part in "Spring Into Health", with a bit of interest, launched a subsidised beginners group in May and 21 runners showed up! runnyhoneys Bordon with a few hiccoughs on the way is here to stay.
